Yellow-lipped Sea Krait Hunting Behavior
SEA SNAKE HUNTING. The yellow-lipped sea krait (Laticauda colubrina), also known as the banded sea krait, is a species of venomous sea snake found in tropical Indo-Pacific oceanic waters. We saw several in the Philippines and I made several videos.
It spends much of its time underwater in order to hunt, but returns to land to digest, rest, and reproduce. It has very potent neurotoxic venom which it uses to prey on eels and small fish.
I knew that it was toxic when I was filming this, but figured there was little chance I would be bitten. It did not seem to mind my following it. At one point, it hit my camera with its tail. Perhaps more knowledgable people will tell me I was foolish, in which case I will not do this again.
