This photo was taken near the top of the Bright Angel Trail in Grand Canyon National Park. I had backpacked alone down to the bottom for fishing and photography, camping at Bright Angel Campground. About midway through the trip, it started raining heavily and I decided to hike out before conditions got worse. As I journeyed from the 2546 elevation of the river, with weather roughly analogous to that of Phoenix, I gained 4380 feet in elevation up to the 6800 feet in elevation at top of the trail. About half way up it started snowing.
Near the top I stopped at a pretty area, where the trail dropped off into an abyss. I took photos for a moment as another hiker politely waited behind me. I then figured the photo would be better with him in it so I gestured him to go ahead. Then I snapped this shot.
